Each week on a Tuesday and a Thursday in the run up to Fizz Feast we’re focusing on one of our fabulous exhibitors to give you a flavour of the treats in store at Fizz Feast on Saturday 17 November.
Today’s Fizz Feast Taster looks at Martha the mouse who is scampering back to Fizz Feast again this year. Martha is a very happy little mouse who has the perfect life. She’s normally spotted sitting on a truckle of Damn Fine Cheese looking at people with her big round eyes encouraging you to have a taste and who could possibly resist?
Damn Fine Cheese was started just four years ago by Simon Reed and Tracey Smedley who had spent many years selling cheese but always feeling people missed out on some of the best flavours available. These small waxed truckles on which Martha sits are ideal for numerous occasions and great in a Christmas stocking too. Being carefully protected by the wax and under Martha’s watchful eye they travel easily – even by post.
Over the past few years the range has expanded to numerous flavours, most of which will be on taste at Fizz Feast this year. Favourites range from the Mature Cheddar to the Chilli Cheddar with many other temptations in between. If you’re into Twiglets, then don’t miss the more unusual Wee Yeasty Beasty or the festive Cranberry Cheddar along your tasting journey. My favourite has to be the Black Pepper which has the delicious Damn Fine Cheese signature creamy taste finishing with a hint of heat – a welcome winter warmer.
Keep an eye out for Martha in the Fizz Hall at Fizz Feast and don’t miss the chance to taste all the flavours. Just be sure to keep some space in your bag for a handful to take home.
Fizz Feast is a true Celebration of Sparkling Wine & Artisan Food being held on Saturday 17 November at The Edinburgh Academy on Henderson Row. There are two sessions to choose from 12-3pm and 4-7pm.
