In the run up to Fizz Feast we have a series of Fizz Feast Taster blogs each focusing on one of our fabulous exhibitors, to give you a flavour of the treats in store on Saturday 17 November.
The latest Fizz Feast Taster blog is all about an old favourite wine merchant – Oddbins. Reformed under new management in 2011, Oddbins now has 45 stores up and down the UK, offering an exceptional quality wine range, while continuing to represent the most exciting emerging trends in the industry.
Under the watchful eye of Head Buyer Ana Sapungiu (MW) and Jenny Smith (who is also in the Master of Wine programme) Oddbins have not only rejuvenated key regions such as California but have also built an exceptional range of more esoteric wines, representing Romania, Macedonia, Switzerland, Georgia, Slovenia and Crete, along with a growing focus on the natural/ minimal intervention wine category.
For sparkling wine, the Oddbins’ buying team are similarly keen to pursue more obscure regions and styles. While famous Champagne houses and highly coveted Proseccos will always be available, Oddbins focus on some wonderful smaller producers and emerging trends to bring you the best sparkling wine bargains. In Champagne, Oddbins have an increased focus on grower Champagnes bringing in two exclusive lines over this year, the Henri Harlin from H. Blin and the Cuvée Saint-Georges NV bottled by Drappier, which will be available at Fizz Feast, showing outstanding value for money.
Like many in the UK wine trade, Oddbins have noticed a significant increase in interest for English Sparkling and accordingly brought in new lines from Sussex producer; Bolney Estate, the Bolney Bubbly will be available to try at the Fizz Feast. Also, at the Oddbins stand, two incredible value Cremants, one made solely from Chardonnay, the other is 100% Chenin. Continuing on the theme of emerging regions, Oddbins are showing a Tasmanian traditional method rose, a Gran Reserva Cava with an unusually high proportion of Chardonnay, a high-quality Lambrusco illustrating the renaissance in this style of wine and an excellent value Italian sparkling that retails for under £9! Another huge favourite which Oddbins will be bringing to Fizz Feast is the Black Queen – a stunning Sparkling Shiraz. If you’ve not tried this iconic red fizz then be sure to have a taste.
Over Christmas Oddbins has a vast range of wines, sparklings and spirits on offer so be sure to visit your local store. They also offer free delivery, free glass hire, gift wrapping, help with party planning and excellent wine knowledge to help you get ready for the festive season.
